Why understanding induction of labour is so important ..

Induction of labour is one of the most common things mentioned during pregnancy - mid pregnancy in some cases or towards due dates for some. Nationally induction rates are around 1 in 5 but locally the rates are higher at 1 in 3 first time mothers - hence why you need to be clear on induction before you get to the conversation in pregnancy!

Often parents may be aware of 1 maybe 2 induction methods but ultimately it is never a one size fits all .. its very common for one method to lead to others, this can greatly effect overall birth experience and expectations especially if you were unaware of these before hand.

Having an understanding of what induction of labour is trying to achieve, the time scale it may take, the outcomes and how you can help the process can be really important and help greatly!
